This past weekend I checked off a major "to-do" on my bucket list while in Blacksburg: hike the triple crown (three ridge peaks: Tinker Cliffs, McAfee's Knob and Dragon's Tooth) on the Appalachian Trail! There is a loop and non-loop version, and being a novice backpacker I opted for the non-loop. It was still a 24 mile hike over the course of 2 days and one night, with almost 5,000ft of elevation gain. It was challenging physically, but mentally relaxing: I only had to worry about where to get water and where shelter was located. Not once did my overwhelming 'to-do by Monday' list cross my mind. It was a weekend well spent (even if I was immobilized on the couch the day after!)
